Zen Garden > You Can Learn to Enjoy Every Day

At some day, some time in the future there will come a point where you will draw your last breath. Yes. You will pass on, die, expire, pass away. That is inevitable. It WILL happen and there is not a thing that you can do about it. Your time is finite. Why then should you not enjoy the time that you have left? Read on for tips on how you can do just that...

At some day, some time in the future there will come a point where you will draw your last breath. Yes. You will pass on, die, expire, pass away. That is inevitable. It WILL happen and there is not a thing that you can do about it.

Morbid as this thought may seem it is a reality that all living creatures will die.

Your time on this earth is very limited.

Assuming that you are a person of average health and you do not engage in any activities that are deleterious to your wellbeing then, on average

  • if you are a woman you will live for 80 to 85 years, and
  • if you are a man you will live for 75 to 80 years.

Those are the broad averages.

Whatever age you are right now, subtract that from the above averages and that is roughly the time that you have left. From that figure, take off a further third because that is the time that you will take sleeping. What is left is the number of years of conscious living time that you have remaining.

The point that I am laboriously making here is that your time on earth is limited - very limited.

Why then, should you NOT enjoy every day? There isn't a LOT of time left. Would you rather spend that time being miserable or would you rather spend it being happy?

Can you find something EVERY day to take comfort and solace in? Yes, you can. You can if you want to.

You might take enjoyment in something simple like:

  • taking a leisurely walk
  • visiting a friend
  • contacting somebody to tell them how much they mean to you
  • engaging in an activity that you take pleasure from

Whatever it is that makes you happy and joyous, take some time every day to do it. To be happy and to enjoy your life is a decision that only you can make.

When you arise from sleep in the morning take a moment to sit on the edge of your bed and before standing up say to yourself:

"I am going to ENJOY this day."

Remember, only YOU can allow other people and external influences to prevent you from enjoying every day to the full.
